The heating and hot water systems manufacturer was presented with an Award for Waste Minimisation after undergoing a major redesign of its entire range of products in order to improve each product's performance and maximise its energy efficiency.
All Gledhill heating and hot water appliances now use a high level of insulation which is completely ozone friendly, meeting the requirements of the BRE EcoHomes specification for minimising the environmental impact of houses and apartments.
The benefits of these changes are now being passed on to homeowners across the UK, with greater performance offering lower running costs and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
The redesign also allowed Gledhill to address its raw material requirements and by establishing a waste elimination team from the company's design, production and purchasing departments, it has successfully reduced its scrap metal by 168 tonnes per year.
Gledhill has long been at the forefront of innovation in the domestic heating and hot water industry and its product collection now includes the most advanced range of appliances that utilise renewable and alternative energies to save energy and reduce homeowners' fuel bills.
Collecting the Award, Dan Docherty of Gledhill Water Storage, said: "We pride ourselves at being at the leading edge of product development for environmentally friendly and high efficiency products but equally we are dedicated to developing increasingly sustainable solutions for our own business performance. This award is testament to our commitment to minimising the impact our business has on the environment."
Gledhill had its environmental achievements recognised by the Lancashire Business Environment Association at its Annual Dinner and Awards at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Woods.
