Gledhill Water Storage has completed a major extension of its manufacturing headquarters in Blackpool, increasing manufacturing capacity by 70%. The showroom will act as a fully working asset, logging data from the company’s variety of alternative energy appliances – BoilerMate mCHP for micro Combined Heat and Power, BoilerMate Sol for Solar energy, and BoilerMate HP for heat pump technology.

Gledhill Chairman, Houghton Gledhill, said: “By extending our factory space, we have been able to achieve even higher levels of productivity, improved space utilisation, and increased stock turnaround of our A-class range of products, our new wall-hung condensing boilers, and our new condensing combi boiler, which is due to launch in early 2006.

“However, we will continue to invest in advanced plant and manufacturing systems in order to remain at the forefront of the industry, meeting the ever growing requirements for our products, and further evolving our innovative range of appliances.”

The additional space will also house the company’s first dedicated alternative energies showroom, showcasing Gledhill’s complete range of appliances that deliver sustainable solutions for heating and hot water.

An additional 40, 000 sq ft of manufacturing space is now in place, enabling the company to further evolve its market-leading range of thermal storage appliances and meet increasing product demand from new home builders nationwide.

The manufacturing headquarters on the Sycamore Industrial Estate produces the most advanced range of appliances for the delivery of domestic mains pressure hot water and heating, as well as a range of high efficiency Sedbuk A-rated condensing boilers. Gledhill products are now used to provide domestic hot water and central heating in almost 1 in 3 homes in the UK.

The new unit houses state-of-the-art computer-controlled fabrication machinery, including new automated punching/folding machines that are programmed to run through the night and maximise the potential feed-through of component parts to the appliance production cells. The extension also provides secure yard space for efficient loading and unloading, as well as storage and parking.

The new facilities will enable more flexible working at the plant which has already achieved a unique ‘World Class Manufacturing’ status under the CBI’s PROBE scheme to promote business excellence.
