The high flying buyers of luxury apartments in the new Manchester landmark Great Nothern Tower, created by George Wimpey City, will enjoy the benefits of power showers and mains pressure hot water delivered by the use of PulsaCoil primary store units from Gledhill. Manchester's landmark Great Northern Tower

PulsaCoil has emerged as the preferred choice of specifiers for city-living developments across the UK; the single box electric unit provides mains pressure hot water without requiring pressure and temperature relief valves, tundishes or run-away pipework, therefore eliminating the need for creating costly access to service columns.

Great Northern Tower has 257 one and two bedroom luxury apartments and duplex penthouses prices start from £198,500 rising to £822,500. The unusual ‘wedge’-shaped design by award-winning Assael cascades from 25 storeys to 10 storeys and features a striking façade of reflecting glass and grey tile. The apartment layouts complement the shape of the iconic architecture and feature sleek and light open plan living areas with wood laminate floors and mood lighting. Most apartments have balconies and all are finished to a high quality standard with excellent attention to detail

The PulsaCoil units are being supplied in two sizes - 145 litre and 185 litre for one and two bedroom apartments - and will provide the power behind body-jet showers in the main bathrooms and en-suite installations in the apartments.

They also provide class-leading hot water performance primarily using off peak electricity tariffs which means the system can prove extremely cost effective for residents.

The PulsaCoil open-vented system reverses the primary and secondary, storage and heating functions of conventional hot water systems.

A quantity of water is contained within an insulated storage vessel which is heated using two low watt thermostatically controlled immersion heaters. The hot water within the tank is used to transmit heat through a highly efficient heat exchanger linked to the PulsaCoil store, cold water from the mains flows through the heat exchanger and directly to the tap or shower outlets. Careful control of the flow gives a temperature of around 53ºC at the taps.

PulsaCoil is manually filled on installation with the original water remaining within the unit for the life of the primary store. A top up tank is mounted above the unit to accommodate any expansion of the water volume from the heated store, with separate overheat and control thermostats providing the unit with a fail-safe function.
