Everything we know about heating systems - condensed into a SEDBUK 'A' rated boiler

The Gledhill family has been involved in the manufacture of domestic heating systems for over 80 years and, in recent years, has become a recognised leader in the field of high efficiency products for the UK homeowner.Gledhill HE Condensing Boiler fitted in a kitchen

There have been Gledhill products that incorporate a boiler for more than 20 years and, over the past five years, this has included high efficiency condensing boilers.

So, with the advent of the latest changes to Part L of the Building Regulations it is only logical that Gledhill should be at the forefront of those companies manufacturing products to enable you to meet these needs.

The new Gledhill HE boiler is just such a product. A wall-mounted high efficiency condensing boiler with a SEDBUK ‘A’ rating that is approved by the Energy Saving Trust. A boiler that is compact, lightweight, simple to install, operate and maintain and which is
backed by a comprehensive spares and after sales support service.

And it’s a boiler that looks as good as it sounds, with an attractive gently bowed front in white with grey trim it will grace any traditional kitchen design or there’s the unique option of a stylish brushed stainless steel front to complement the most modern kitchen units.

The Gledhill HE Condensing Boiler is suitable for use with any double feed storage vessel but has been designed to work particularly well with a thermal store, such as the Gledhill BoilerMate A-Class, or an Accolade A-Class unvented cylinder.

High Efficiency SEDBUK ‘A’ Rated
Every model in the Gledhill HE boiler range is SEDBUK ‘A’ rated, which means that they offer an energy efficiency rating of over 90%. Couple this with the fact that they are fully self-modulating, enabling them to match output to demand, and incorporate a horizontal firing pre-mix burner, which is not only exceptionally reliable but also ensures low NOx emissions and you will see why they are as environmentally-friendly as they are efficient.

Compact & Lightweight
The Gledhill HE Condensing Boiler is as compact as any high efficiency boiler available and, as it does not require a ventilated compartment, it offers complete flexibility of siting – even in a kitchen cupboard. A low lift weight, as little as 24.5 Kg for the 10kW and 15 kW models, makes it easy to handle, deliver and install.

Simple To Install
Its light weight and compact design are just two features that make for easy installation. With a template and simple-to-fix mounting bracket supplied with each unit, it’s easy to position and hang; a built-in condensate S trap ensures simple connection and screwless electrical terminals behind an easy access flip-down panel make it a hassle-free, one man job.

Easy To Operate
One of the many outstanding features of the Gledhill HE boiler is its simplicity. Advanced design has refined-out all unnecessary and overcomplex components and controls, so there is just one switch to turn the boiler on or off, everything else is taken care of by its intelligent electronics.

Easy To Maintain
With so few components, there is less to go wrong. Its long-life stainless steel heat exchanger is lightweight, tough and dependable but, if a fault should occur, it has a comprehensive diagnostic programme, based on fault-tolerant sensors, with a clear, easy to interpret digital display that makes identifying and rectifying problems a simple task.

Water Treatment
The Domestic Heating Compliance Guide published in May 2006 requires a water treatment device to be fitted where the hardness is greater than 200ppm. This is a requirement for both combis and storage vessels to comply with Building Regulations L1A and L1B. The Gledhill in-line scale inhibitor CAN BE SPECIFIED AT TIME OF ORDER for a very modest cost. This is fitted within the case and therefore does not require the provision of a fused spur in the cupboard.

5 Models With A Choice Of Flueing Options
There are 5 models in the range, with outputs from 10kW up to 30kW, enabling you to choose an option to suit any need, from a small home to a large house. The range of flueing options available is just as flexible, enabling siting to suit a wide variety of domestic applications.

Comprehensive Spares & After Sales Support
The Gledhill HE boiler is backed by a 7 days a week technical help desk supported by a team of experienced field-based engineers. Spare parts are despatched from our central store overnight, if ordered before 3:00pm, are held by British Gas or are readily available via the Parts Center network.

THE COMPACT DESIGN BELIES ITS OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

The Gledhill HE Condensing Boiler design incorporates a variable thermostat that allows central heating temperatures to be adjusted between 50OC and 82OC and a premix burner controls the gas input, directly linking it to the fan speed. This means that the gas valve automatically maintains the correct proportional flow, ensuring high efficiency throughout its output range.

Installation Data

The following clearances are required for installation, servicing and replacement of parts.

Clearance Data

For the continued efficient and safe operation of the Gledhill HE Condensing Boiler, it is recommended that it is checked and serviced annually by a CORGI registered installer. The heat exchanger is covered by a 2-year warranty, which is dependent on this annual check being carried out.

EXCEPTIONAL SITING FLEXIBILITY – FLUEING HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY THROUGH THE ROOF
Vertical flue pipe
The Gledhill HE is a room sealed fanned flue condensing boiler with a broad range of flueing options, enabling it to be sited almost anywhere to suit the individual house or apartment design. It uses a concentric flue system which enables flue gasses and combustion air to be ducted through a single pipe run, providing a simple, neat solution.

The standard configuration is a horizontal balanced flue kit for discharging through an outside wall from either the rear or side of the boiler, which comprises:

1 x 600mm wall terminal 60/100mm (complete with sealing plates) and 1 x 87/90° bend 60/100mm.

Additional extension pipes are available for flueing up to 7 metres.

Additional extension pipes

There are also ‘standard’ kits available for flueing vertically, through a single-storey roof, comprising:
For flueing vertically through the roofspace to a purpose designed ridge terminal, the components are as follows:

1 x 60/100 concentric flue pipe;
1 x 60/100 concentric flue pipe;
1 x 60/100mm concentric air inlet;
1 x 60mm single flue pipe;
2 x 60mm single pipe flue bend (43/45)
1 x 60mm spigot x 80mm socket adaptor;
1 x 60mm single bracket; 1 x ridge terminal.
Additional flue kits

Additional flue kits, which include all the necessary push-fit socketed components, are also available and there is also a range of optional components including additional 87/90° bends, 43/45° bends, sealing plates, balanced flue terminal guards and pipe supports, enabling designs to be tailored to individual needs.

All 60/100mm concentric pipes and components are available in white epoxy finish and come complete with an EPDM sealing clamp. All 60mm single pipes and components are available in a plain aluminium finish and come complete with twin seal socket.

Flue pipe 1 x 60/100mm concentric flue pipe;
1 x 60/100mm concentric roof terminal;
1 x 60/100mm concentric flat roof flashing and
1 x 60/100mm concentric pipe bracket.

or to a pitched roof terminal:

2 x 60/100mm concentric flue pipes;
1 x 60/100mm concentric roof terminal;
2 x 60mm concentric pipe flue bend (43/45);
1 x 60/100mm universal pitched roof flashing
and 1 x 60/100mm concentric pipe bracket.

NB: Flues must be installed and terminals positioned in accordance with the requirements of BS 5440: Part 1. As with all high efficiency condensing boilers, the flue gas temperature will be low and, therefore, will produce a plume of condensation in cool weather. This should be borne in mind when selecting the position for the terminal.
