Vented Cylinders
Gledhill Building Products manufacture a wide range of vented cylinders in both copper and stainless steel.
The core of this product range is the standard cylinder for the replacement market. These are the EnviroFoam Copper and EnviroFoam Stainless cylinders. These both comply with the dimensional requirements of BS1566 and 2010 Part L1B for replacement cylinders.
We also offer vented cylinders that meet the higher standards of the new build 2010 Part L1A market and this is the Stainless Lite Vented range.
There is also the Stainless Lite Triple Coil which gives the option of utilising uncontrolled heat sources, such as wood burning stoves, as well as traditional gas boilers.
Bespoke cylinder manufacture
If a standard cylinder is not the right solution we would be delighted to manufacture a bespoke copper cylinder to your exact requirements. Each of our nationwide network of super depot manufacturing units can offer this service and in many cases we will be able to offer extremely rapid availability often on a next day basis if there is an urgent requirement.

Thermal stores
The vented cylinders also come in a range which incorporates thermal store technology. This is where the heat from the body of water stored within the unit is used to heat the domestic water which is used for baths, showers, washing etc. The first group of products in this range are the Torrent cylinders, which have four variations. The Torrent MultiFuelStore OV and Torrent MultiFuelStore SP provide heating and hot water, utilising a variety of heat sources such as a gas boiler, electric immersion heaters or solid fuel stove. As an open vented unit the Torrent range is suitable for use with a wood burning stove, unlike unvented cylinders which should not be connected to uncontrolled heat sources.
One of the major benefits of the Torrent is the capability to use it with a combination of multiple heat sources for either open vented or sealed heating systems. The Torrent then becomes the centre of the system with all heat sources putting energy into the store with hot water AND heating then taken from the store.
The Torrent cylinder is also available for use with alternative energies, with the Torrent MultifuelStore Solar and Torrent MultiFuelStore HP both available.
Thermal stores for apartments
A popular choice of cylinder for apartments where electricity is the only fuel is the PulsaCoil BP. This is an open vented thermal store which utilises off peak electricity to heat the main store of water, which in turn provides high performance mains pressure hot water to the property. There is also a solar option to this product, the PulsaCoil BP Solar, which uses solar energy to top up the heat of the stored water during the day, hence reducing the amount of energy required to be supplied by the immersion heater which is active during the off peak periods.
Both of these products feature the significant advantage of overcoming the onerous requirement of Part G Building Regulations which prohibits the connection of a discharge pipe from an unvented cylinder into a soil stack, unless it can withstand the temperature of the water discharged. This is not possible with plastic soil stacks that are currently available and so can be very difficult to overcome.
Thermal stores for new build housing
The BoilerMate BP offers thermal store technology where the gas boiler heats the store and also incorporate a back-up immersion element in case of problems with the boiler. The energy in the store is used to produce high performance mains pressure hot water to the property, without the problems of dealing with an unvented cylinder discharge.
All the above thermal stores are insulated to meet Part L Building Regulations (L1A and L1B) for both new-build and replacement projects. They also do not require any special registration to fit them, unlike with an unvented cylinder.
